Chronic obstructive inflammatory diseases of salivary glands are caused by stones, fibromucinous plugs, congenital or acquired strictures, foreign bodies.
This entity is characterized by persistent or recurrent salivary gland swelling with pain, tenderness, and often frank suppuration from the duct. Of the causes, foreign bodies are not only extremely rare, its mechanisms to ascend salivary duct are also unclear.
Author experienced a case of chronic obstructive sialadenitis caused by three pieces of wood in left parotid duct, and excised the strictured portion of Stensen¡¯s duct through the overlying incision and then approximated the severed duct after passing a small silastic tube as a stent into the opening of Stensen¡¯s duct. Postoperative results were good.
